Community Survey Results
In the late spring of 2023, we asked our Briar Hill School families and community members to see if everyone was happy to continue raising money or if other options should be explored to get our new playground built sooner.
We are currently waiting to hear back on 3 potential grants that we applied for last year. One worth up to $180K, one worth up to $125K and one worth up to $30K. We should hear if we were awarded any of these grants by November 2023. So, what’s the plan you ask?
With any luck, we will receive one or more of those grants and we will be able to build an amazing playground for our school. If we are not awarded any of these grants we will need to raise around $50K through fundraising to build an amazing, but smaller scaled playground.
Based on the survey results, our community would like a playground built this school year! So the playground committee is moving forward to raise that final $50K, so that in any case, we can make that happen. If we are awarded any of those grants, and we don’t need any or all of the additional funds, the money raised through 2023 fundraisers would be redirected back to our school for other needs through the Briar Hill School Foundation (which provides funding to support technology, literacy, in-school residencies, field trips and many more activities/resources for our school)!
If you are interested, you can review the survey results below. In general the survey found that the majority of our community would like:
a playground built in 2024 (or 2025, but let’s aim for 2024!)
to stick with our original design (should we receive grants) or opt for a smaller option from our original supplier.
to keep the rubber surfacing and accessibility features to create an inclusive playground.
