We are always looking for people to contribute to the success of our many exciting Briar Hill School fundraisers and events. These can’t happen without your support. It is a wonderful way to get involved, a great way to meet other parents in our school community and be part of making a difference for our students at Briar Hill.

Volunteer Opportunities

The secretary keeps an accurate record of School Council and AGM meeting minutes, monthly agendas and other records (school council annual reports, etc.)

Some typical duties:
Record and distribute minutes of Council meetings, and AGM and ensure minutes accurately reflect discussion.
Maintains records of meeting minutes, correspondence and records.
Possess working knowledge of school council bylaws/operating procedures.

The Volunteer Coordinator actively encourages other parents in the school to become involved in meaningful ways.

Some typical duties:
Attend regular Parent Council meetings.
Distribute volunteer forms to families asking for volunteer interest and contact information at beginning of the year.
Compile and maintain a database of all parent volunteers and distribute this information to grade representatives and other appropriate personnel (event coordinators, etc.) as requested through the year.
Compile and maintain a list of volunteer opportunities, roles and responsibilities.
Publicize volunteer opportunities.
Promote the value of volunteering with Parent Council
Plan a recognition activity for volunteers for end-of-year
Recruit volunteers to coordinate Parent Council events (Halloween HeyDay, Family Dance, Used Book Sale, Fun Lunch/Pizza Lunch/Healthy Hunger, Feed-the-Teacher)
Assists event coordinators in finding volunteers for council run events as needed.
Schedule volunteers for Parent Council events.
Assist in volunteer recognition and keeping this up-to-date.

Class representatives should be a parent of a student in the class they represent. They actively communicate relevant School Council information to their class and vice-versa.

Time Commitment:
1-2 hours/month for meetings
1-2 hours/month depending on volunteer needs and time of year (teacher gifts, etc.)
Some typical duties:
Attend regular Parent Council meetings
Bring forward information or questions at council meetings from your class and share relevant information following meetings via email in other parents in your class.
Act as a liaison between Parent Council and their class to help promote community and foster relationship building.
Help collect parent contact information to generate a class contact list (separate from CBE school-based communication).
Promote relevant volunteer opportunities.
Coordinate parent volunteers for your class (in-class volunteering and field trips). All volunteers much has valid police clearance with the CBE.
Coordinate or delegate and interested parent to coordinate group teacher gifts.
